The Beverly Crafts & Gifts Studio
Trenton, NJ native Beverly Keese-Kelley inherited her love for art from her mother who was an artist and maker. To her mother she owes several talents: art, sewing and interior decorating.
"Everything Mom did was naturally sustainable. It was her upbringing and way of life for her growing up. Today "Sustainable" has to be brought back into practice. I love foraging especially in my own back yard like I did as a kid. I love turning discarded items into treasure. I Fleamarket, Yard Sale, Thrift and Dumpster Dive. Recycle has upgraded to Upcycle...I'm all here for it."
Beverly uses methods similarly known to African villagers, by using what was readily available such as various discarded items. Combined with her talent for sewing, painting and crafting her pieces give us an emotional connection to both past and present experiences of African Americans. Because of her multi-talents, her mediums range from Multimedia Fabric and Paper Collages that channel the Utility Quilts her grandmother made, Free Hand Silhouettes and Digitally Altered Photography to Hand Made Figurines. Vintage Collecting and the Written Word has also found their way into many of her works, including Scriptures and one of her favorite words, "Free". Although a busy wife, mother and grandmother, Beverly can be found in her Ewing based studio immersed her passion.
